DerrelL PatTerson

Originally from Seymour, Texas, Derrell loves to travel. Since his ordination in 1981, God has called him to churches all across Texas! He received his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from McMurry University in 1977 and his Master of Divinity Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1980.  Derrell and his wife, Sandy, have been serving Big Spring FUMC since 2017!

Although Derrell loves a good hamburger and a Dr Pepper, spending time with his six grandchildren as "Papa" puts the biggest smile on his face.

Derrell loves meeting new people and would love to meet you!

Set up a meeting with Derrell!

Letter from Derrell

Friends,

Welcome to First United Methodist Church!

My name is Derrell Patterson and my wife is Sandy. We were married on August 26, 1978 in Brown City, Michigan, Sandy’s home town. We met while singing together in a musical group at Asbury Seminary. Sandy is a homemaker, she has taught piano lessons, has been a teacher’s aid, and worked at McMurry University in the Registrar’s Office. Our ministry for the last 40 years has included preaching, music, church camps, local church health, missions, and a ministry of encouragement.

We moved to Big Spring in 2010 when I became the Big Spring District Superintendent. I served in that capacity until I was appointed as the Pastor of FUMC in Big Spring in 2017. We have really enjoyed returning to pastor in the local church. FUMC has so many talented and loving people. We want to introduce you to this friendly congregation.

Our son Douglas is married to Kelly. They have three daughters, Praylee, Macelyn, and Jynsen and they live in Vernon, Texas.

Our son David is married to Samantha. They have a son and a daughter, Jaxson and Jessalyn, and they are expecting a third child. They live in Abilene. Our daughter Kimberly and her daughter Alia live in Abilene.

We want to share the love of Jesus with you as well as pray for you and encourage you.

In Christ,

Derrell and Sandy Patterson
